I have just bought a 1980/81 RR Silver Spirit which has an intermittant problem whereby it almost completely dies off. It usually happens at 40+ mph. When I back off the throttle I will sometimes perk up again for a while.
I initially thought fuel starvation, but did the plugs, leads and distributor cap, before replacing the fuel filter element (which was a little coated). However, this has not solved the issue. I have stripped and cleaned the rotor assembley on the pierburg electric fuel pump (I was kind of hoping to find the strainer chocked), but still the problem exists. It has got so bad that it has no power!!!
I'm I on the right lines looking at fuelling, or could it be the Lucas 'Opus' Hopeless electronic ignition failing??? I intend to check the tank strainer (fuel starvation) and then the anti run-on solonoid (leaning out the mixture)....
Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.
Cheers. Steve
