Hi, We have got a 1990 Turbo R in. it has been stood outside for about 3 years. Won't start, it cranks but no spark from either coil. The amplifier packs both have ignition feed, can you point me in the right direction please, I can only see 1 crank sensor in the bell housing, where should i take a reading from that ? (i have a scope)

Good Afternoon
The first part that we would say to check would be the drive belt that runs between the two distributors.
Apart from this we would suggest checking the earth connections and the associated wiring.
Many thanks

I have the same problem. The engine cranks but no spark. This occurred after changing the valve cover gaskets. I have revisited the wiring that was disturbed during the valve cover work and can find no missed connections. Where are the earth ground connections located? If the distributor belt is broke should not there be spark on the group 2 system? I have the Engine Management Manuel TSD 4737 and have followed the requisite Bosch digital ignition system test program. One question is the internal resistance of the ignition coils and the other is how do you check the K-Motronic ECU? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Tom Greasel
I have spoken to our technical guy on this matter.
his advice is for you to check the 3 way earth from the starter motor to chassis please ,remove /clean and refit these early 90,s cars sometimes had this problem and even fitted an extra one to the nearside UD70643.
I hope this helps to fix the problem.
Many Thanks

After cleaning all of the grounds I now have spark and the engine now starts with difficulty . It runs but will not "rev" over 1,300 RPMs. When I was changing the valve cover gasket I had to remove the engine speed sensor connection from the ECU to the speed sensor on the bell housing. The plastic three wire connection completely disintegrated. Some of the wires from the ECU to the speed sensor are of a different color. From the ECU the wires are Blue, Black/White and Yellow. From the sensor they are Yellow, Black and Stranded with a clear coating. The connection that I have made is Yellow to Yellow, Blue to Black and Black/White to Stranded. I have the Engine Management Systems Manuel TSD 4737 and have followed the fault diagnosis charts and have checked for continuity from the pins 29 and 30 on the ECU to the sensors everything seems to be OK. Could the Engine Speed Sensor be defective? Are they known to go bad? Can the sensor be checked for operation? What could the other causes be for the engine speed failing to rev over 1,300 RPMs? Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tom Greasel
Good morning
This is the response that i have received from our technical guy on the questions that you sent over.
I hope the below helps.
Try and change the crankshaft or camshaft sensors.
This is presuming the car is fuelling properly.
Are the compressions ok.
many thanks
